To answer the questions about the hatch periscope used in early T-34. Here is what I have:



The design itself was interesting - when it was not in use, you could slide the bottom part up (kind of like in a submarine). Maybe be the idea was that the sleeve of a lower part would cover the glass part of the top to protect it?
